Who we are

Our name

Rifò is a Tuscanian inflection of the verb “rifare”, that means “ to redo something”.
We have chosen this KM 0-name so that it could represent the Tuscan flair. It recalls the way the craftsmen who had invented the upcycling process of old garments used to talk in the past. These artisans (ragmen) are called “Cenciaioli” in italian.
This name comes also from the fact that we “redo” a traditional profession that in the last years was about to disappear.

Our logo

Our logo contains our philosophy in it.
It depicts the stylised shape of a person, because that’s what is at the centre of every our thought: through this sustainable fashion project we manage to give value to garments collected from people and to craftsmen who ethically produce them.
The dot at the top right represents the concept of circular economy, another of our strong beliefs.

Rifo - La nostra Storia

  • July 2017 Niccolò is in Vietnam and thinks about creating a sustainable fashion brand after seeing the effects of overproduction and overconsumption of fashion industry.

  • August 2017 In his office in Hanoi he thinks about the name of this new brand: “Rifò”.

  • September 2017 Niccolò comes back from Vietnam and studies more deeply the feasibility of the project in Prato. He meets craftsmen and prepares a crowdfunding campagin with Clarissa, Michele and Fiammetta.

  • November 2017 The crowdfunding starts and in less than 30 days around 11500 euros are collected, thanks to Rifò Supporters.

  • January 2018 After the success of the campaign the project officially starts and this website is created.

  • April 2018 A new crowdfunding campagin is launched, this time for the 100% upcycled t-shirt: more than 300 are sold in a month.

  • May 2018 Rifò enters in the “Hubble” acceleration program at Nana Bianca in Florence, with the support of Research and Developement Foundation and Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze.

  • July 2018 Rifo S.r.l. is offically founded: from an idea to a venture with a social aim.

  • September 2018 Daniele joins the team and starts following the development of the products.

  • October 2018 The cashmere collecting service is launched.

  • November 2018 Rifò comes back to Prato in its new shop/office called Agorà with Niccolò Corsi of Mashup Lab.

  • January 2019 Rifò joins Pitti Immagine Man in Florence and Who’s Next in Paris for the first time.

  • March 2019 The first upcycled sweater from jeans, 100% Made in Italy, is launched.

  • June 2019 Martina (content creator) and Camilla (fashion designer) join the team, so that Rifò can evolve from a project to a real brand.

  • We believe in our territory, where we have been raised and grown up, that is transmitting, generation by generation, a huge textile knowledge.
  • We believe in an art, a tradition, that has been transforming old garments in new fibers for many years.
  • We believe that production benefits must be shared with all the territory, that also richness was born to be shared.
  • We believe that it is still possible to make a Made in Italy garment, from craftsmen’s hands, like we used to do in the past.
  • We don’t like talking about “consumers”: they are humans for us with their human needs. We put them at the centre of every our thought or action.
  • We believe that together we can make the difference, changing things step by step.
  • We believe in emotions and feelings, because a garment has the right ti be worn forever and not just once.
  • We don’t believe in sales and black fridays… we want to sell our products because people really need
    them, not just because they are pushed to buy them.
  • We believe in processes, in learning by doing.
  • We believe that is important to have a right balance between work and life: we like keeping on nurturing
    our passions.
  • We believe that it is really possible to create a sustainable alternative to fast fashion and to all those
    problems that derive from fashion industry.

    have asked for.
